Bill is a partner in the Washington D.C. office of Sughrue Mion, PLLC, where he is one of the leaders of the Litigation practice. Focusing primarily on patent litigation, Bill has handled patent infringement cases for more than 25 years. He has litigated cases filed in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the U.S. Federal District Courts, and the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). Consistently named as an expert in Euromoney’s Patent Expert Guide, Bill has developed an outstanding reputation as both a patent practitioner and a litigator. Bill was recently recognized in the 2025 IAM Strategy 300: The World's Leading IP Strategists. Bill was also named among the "Expert Guides - 20 Years Experience" as one of the top practitioners in the country in the field of patent law as well as one of the "Best of The Best 2020" as one of the top 30 practitioners of Patent law in the USA. He has significant experience as lead counsel in patent infringement jury trials, counseling, due diligence and appellate practice. Bill has also been designated as lead counsel in over 100 Inter Partes Review (IPR) proceedings and is considered one of the "go to" attorneys for matters before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.
Bill also maintains a significant prosecution practice which focuses on prosecuting patent matters in the electrical, software and mechanical arts, including reexamination and reissue applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Bill is an Adjunct Professor with the University of New Hampshire Law School (Franklin Pierce Law Center), where he teaches Intellectual Property Enforcement at the International Trade Commission (ITC). Furthermore, Bill was instrumental in creating, and was the first chair of, the AIPLA Israel Practice Committee.
