Chid Iyer

With great sadness, we mourn the loss of our partner, colleague and friend, Chid Iyer. For 27 years Chid shared with us his talents as a dedicated lawyer and his warmth and charm as a friend.  Passionate about the law and technology and a fierce advocate for clients, Chid tirelessly fought for the rights of those he served and those he supervised.

A beloved mentor, Chid recruited and trained many young attorneys, watched them grow and took pride in their successful endeavors.  All kept in touch with him after moving on. Those who knew him best learned far more from him than they ever taught him.  Ever optimistic, Chid  turned strangers into family and clients into friends.

Over his career he built new practice areas within the firm and developed them into new businesses. Forever curious, Chid believed anything was possible and always sought to prove it.

Chid graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology (B.S.Ch.E.) B.Tech Chemical Engineering; University of Akron (M.S.Ch.E.); University of Tennessee (M.S.) Computer Science; and Georgetown University Law Center (J.D.).  He was a member of Mensa, American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), Sigma Xi, Upsilon Pi Epsilon, and the Computer Science Honor Society.

Chid joined Sughrue in September of 1997 as an Associate and became a Partner in January of 2005. Chid's practice included patent litigation and prosecution in a broad spectrum of complex, technical areas based on his diverse degrees, including chemistry, biotechnology, pharmacology, and computer science, and he was an advocate of AI as early as the 1980s.  He was a brilliant lawyer with a sharp wit, dry sense of humor, and energetic thirst for knowledge.  His good-hearted nature endeared all whom he touched. Chid was a devoted husband and father of three, and will be sorely missed by all of us.
