Mr. Rachuba zealously advocates for and advises clients on litigation/inter partes review strategies, patent portfolio management, and infringement matters. He has extensive experience in complex patent litigation, and has lead cases from inception, managing all aspects of pleadings, fact and expert discovery, and motion practice. Roman has a deep background in coordinating contentious and complex discovery matters and delivers persuasive oral arguments that clearly and engagingly convey intricate legal concepts. Mr. Rachuba was a key member of a trial team that secured a favorable settlement for a defendant in the middle of trial in a nine-figure patent infringement case. He also lead an inter partes review case that secured a favorable finding of invalidity. He is a member of Sughrue’s Publications Committee, and a contributing author in the ABA’s Patent Litigation Strategies Handbook (Fifth Edition) and the ABA’s The Essential Case Law Guide to PTAB Trials.
Roman leverages his technical background in mechanical engineering to counsel clients in a wide range of technologies and industries including: video and graphic compression; surveillance and security software; speech synthesis; error detection software; information security; systems control algorithms; point of sale systems and software; telecommunications devices; semiconductors; electric, hybrid, autonomous, and internal combustion vehicles; lithium ion batteries; medical devices; power tools; space systems; and heavy industry equipment.
Prior to joining Sughrue, Mr. Rachuba interned for the Honorable Marvin J. Garbis in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, assisting with multiple patent litigations. He also clerked for an export compliance boutique, where he aided in counseling clients on U.S. Depart of Commerce software encryption controls.
