Ian’s practice encompasses obtaining, managing, licensing, and enforcing all manner of intellectual property rights, focusing on particularly on patent and trademark rights. Ian is a Registered Patent Attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and has experience preparing and prosecuting utility and design applications in the electronic arts, software and computer arts, web-based delivery arts, and mechanical arts, including post-grant proceedings such as reexamination and IPR. In the electrical, mechanical, and software arts, he has worked in a diverse set of technologies including RF and optical communications, digital control systems, digital and analog instrumentation, network security and topology, solar power generation and distribution, medical equipment, and beverage refrigeration and dispensing systems. He also has experience preparing patent infringement, validity and novelty opinions, and advising clients on intellectual property policing and enforcement options.
Ian has also represented many clients in patent, trademark and copyright infringement litigation, trade secret misappropriation litigation, and general commercial disputes. He also has experience preparing complex commercial agreements, including asset purchase agreements, licensing agreements, professional services agreements, master service agreements, nondisclosure and non-competition agreements, and various assignment and asset transfer agreements. Ian also has experience preparing terms of use, privacy policies, and click-through agreements.
Prior to practicing law, Ian was a research and development project manager for Entergy Corporation where he provided both technical and managerial oversight for millions of dollars in research projects with various universities. Ian also worked for Entergy as a senior power distribution engineer, where he helped rebuild New Orleans’ power grid after Hurricane Katrina.
