Justin B. Pokotylo’s practice is focused on U.S. and international patent prosecution for electrical and computer-based technologies. He advises clients on patent strategy and portfolio development, and prepares and prosecutes patent applications directed to telecommunications systems, including 5G and emerging 6G technologies, artificial intelligence and machine learning architectures, semiconductors and integrated circuits, fintech platforms, and complex software systems.
His experience includes drafting detailed patent specifications and claim sets, conducting prior art searches and patentability analyses, preparing responses to Office Actions, and participating in examiner interviews before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He works closely with inventors, in-house counsel, and legal teams to align patent protection with technical innovation and business objectives.
Prior to joining Sughrue Mion PLLC, Justin practiced at an Am Law 200 firm supporting patent prosecution and intellectual property strategy matters for clients in advanced technology sectors. He previously worked as a patent engineer at a V100 firm, collaborating with engineers and product teams at leading technology companies and emerging startups on patent applications covering software, hardware, semiconductor, cloud computing, and virtual and augmented reality technologies.
