Karen Dow is a partner in biotechnology and life sciences practice where she focuses on patent prosecution and client counseling. Ms. Dow has more than 20 years of patent experience in biotechnology and pharmaceutical issues including work as patent counsel for Eli Lilly and Company and Triton Biosciences.
Ms. Dow’s practice includes all phases of patent prosecution, including, preparing and prosecuting original patent applications and reissue applications for both domestic and foreign companies. She possesses extensive experience in intellectual property transactions such as licensing, collaboration, research, and other types of agreements, patent interferences and due diligence investigations. Ms. Dow practices in the chemical and biotechnological arts, particularly in the areas of immunology (especially antibodies and vaccines), molecular biology, stem cells, bioinformatics, bioarray technology, microbiology, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, biofuels and organic chemistry.
Karen Dow also has Certified Licensing Professional (CLP) accreditation. The CLP credential acknowledges that one is experienced, proficient, and knowledgeable in the licensing and commercialization of intellectual property.
Ms. Dow has been included in Patent Buddy's 2011 Top Patent Prosecutors Survey - Less than 2% of registered patent attorneys were selected for this honor. She has been recognized by the San Diego Daily Transcript as a "Top Attorney" for Intellectual Property/ Transactional in 2014, and selected as "Top 10 Intellectual Property Lawyers" by the San Diego Daily Transcript 2005-2007. Additionally, Ms. Dow has been a nominee for the Athena Pinnacle Award, Individual in Technology, in 2004 and 2006. Partner Karen Dow was recognized as one of the 2012 Top Attorneys “Transcript 10” in San Diego County and San Diego. Ms. Dow was selected as a winner of the San Diego Business Journal's "Women Who Mean Business Awards" - November 13, 2013.
Ms. Dow was an in-house Patent Attorney for Eli Lilly and Company (Indianapolis, Indiana) and Senior Patent and Licensing Attorney for Triton Biosciences, Inc. (Alameda, California). She also has been a Partner and on the Management Committee of the law firm, Townsend and Townsend and Crew, LLP, while being located in its Palo Alto, California office. Later, Ms. Dow was a Partner-In-Charge of Townsend's San Diego office. In addition, she has been a partner in two general practice San Diego law firms.
