Sughrue Attorney Sunhee Lee Elected President of KAIPBA

Sunhee Lee, partner in Sughrue's Biotechnology, Pharma and Chemical group, was elected as the president of the Korean-American Intellectual Property Bar Association (KAIPBA) for the year 2013 and 2014. The KAIPBA is a professional organization founded in 2007 by patent practitioners who have roots in Korea and work in the DC area. The organization has about 100 members including US patent attorneys, US patent agents, PTO examiners, and trainees from Korea. KAIPBA holds bimonthly meetings, which include seminars and social gatherings. In the past, seminar speakers included Chief Judge Rader, former PTO director David Kappos, former deputy commissioner for Patents John Doll, and former AIPLA president Alan Kasper.

Sunny has been an active and key member of this organization since its inception in 2007 and looks forward to her new role as president. In addition, Sughrue associate, Sujin Park has accepted the position of secretary for KAIPBA. Sujin has held other leadership positions and will transition to position of Secretary in the coming weeks.

KAIPBA maintains a close cooperative relationship with other professional organizations such as Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association (KSEA), Korea Patent Attorney Association (KPAA) and the KIPRIS IP Center in the U.S. Their goal is to expand their existing network and develop a closer and more active relationship with the KPAA through hosting seminars in Korea and publishing articles in Korean IP magazines.
