Sughrue Community Involvement Recognized by Marriott Foundation

SUGHRUE MION, PLLC received the 2003 Small Business Award from Marriott Foundation Bridges from School to Work Program. The award was presented at the Bridges Recognition Dinner on June 10, 2003 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel. This event paid special tribute to employers and individuals who made exceptional contributions to Bridges. The Bridges Program placed more than 5,500 youth in employment with some 1,500 businesses.

The Bridges from School to Work Program facilitates paid employment opportunities for young people in their final year of high school. SUGHRUE MION, PLLC currently employs 3 students from Cordoza High School. These students attend school in the mornings and work in the Firm in the afternoons for school credit. The students perform administrative duties in the New Applications Dept. and Trademark Dept.

This experience for Sughrue was a rewarding one in that we watched the students grow in their maturity and skill level. The Firm has the same level of expectation from the students as it does their full-time regular employees. The students were given training for their tasks and had specific assignments to accomplish each day. As they progressed in their skills, they were given more substantive tasks.

This program was a win/win situation. Sughrue as the employer gained talented new employees for the workplace, the students gained an avenue to a productive and fulfilling future, and everyone gained from living in a society that draws upon the talents of all its citizens.
