Early- to Mid-Career Minority Attorneys in the Mid-Atlantic Region

Lawyers of Color (LOC) recently selected 100 early- to mid-career minority attorneys under 40 from the Mid-Atlantic Region to its inaugural Hot List. Sughrue Mion, PLLC is very pleased to announce that Rupam Bhar has been named to this exceptional group.

Foley & Lardner’s Washington, DC office is hosting a reception and photo shoot for the honorees who will also be profiled in Lawyers Of Color’s inaugural Hot List Special Issue (July 2013).

Mr. Bhar is a member of the firm’s Electrical/Mechanical Patent group. Mr. Bhar’s practice focuses on the preparation of the Electrical and Mechanical patent applications as well as the prosecution of these applications before the U. S Patent and Trademark Office. His areas of expertise include display technology ( plasma, LCD, OLED), network communications and wireless, semiconductors, batteries, memory devices, integrated circuits, and computer architecture.

Mr. Bhar was also a patent researcher at Carnegie Mellon University, Center for Technology Transfer, performing research and patentability analysis for presentation to clients and conducting prior art searches. Mr. Bhar was previously employed with Lockheed Martin Aeronautics as an Electrical Engineer on the Joint Strike Fighter ( JSF) program, managing a hardware team to simulate aircraft bus loading and validation of flight critical subsystems.

Mr. Bhar has also previously made presentations on the American Invents Act and the Impact of Patents and the US Patent Office on Nanobusiness. Mr. Bhar is a member of the ABA, AIPLA, IEEE, and Patent Lawyers Club of Washington.

The honorees were chosen through a two-pronged process. Our selection committee spent months reviewing nominations and researching bar publications and legal blogs in order to identify promising candidates. We accepted nominations from mentors, peers, and colleagues. We also made editorial picks based on our research of attorneys who had noteworthy accomplishments or were active in legal pipeline initiatives.

Lawyers of Color, which was founded as On Being A Black Lawyer, has been recognized by the American Bar Association, National Black Law Students Association, and National Association of Black Journalists. Founded in 2008 as a news and resource center, the company has grown into a social media firm providing research, career development, and brand marketing opportunities to clients.
